If you’re missing one, two, or three teeth, your dentist may recommend dental bridgework as an effective way to fill the gap and restore your smile.
What are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is a permanent tooth replacement solution. It features an artificial tooth that is anchored to your natural teeth on either side of the gap, essentially forming a bridge over the space caused by missing teeth. The porcelain tooth replacement (pontic) is attached to crowns on each side, which are then bonded to the adjacent teeth (via an abutment) to hold it place.
If the natural teeth adjacent to the gap are not strong enough to support the bridgework, or if you’re missing multiple teeth, the dentist may recommend that you get dental implants to anchor the bridgework. To maximize the life of your dental bridge, it is important to follow proper oral hygiene so that your remaining teeth don’t weaken and cause it to fall out.
